Hilton NZ

SECO recently completed the design, supply, installation and commission of a fully operational refrigeration plant for Hilton NZ’s new $100 million state-of-the-art meat processing and distribution facility in Wiri, New Zealand. This is the first and largest of its kind in New Zealand.

The nearly 16000 sqm facility supplies Countdown’s 142 North Island supermarkets with meat and seafood, and consists of temperature-controlled production areas, a fish freezer and various chilled and air-conditioned processing areas. Strict hygiene and temperature control, energy efficiency and waste heat recovery combined with a high operational reliability were important factors in the refrigeration design for this project. In addition to this, the project scope also makes provisions for future expansion of the facility’s freezers and the finished good warehouse.

Most of the production is done automatically using robots and supported by various utilities, leading to a more streamlined and efficient process line. This facility will help Hilton and Countdown provide a wider range of meat products to their customers at a faster pace
